About the Opportunity

headspace is the National Youth Mental Health Foundation supporting young people aged 12-25 years with their mental & general health care needs. At headspace we provide young people with the opportunity to seek help early by bringing local health services under the one roof, making it easier for young people and their families to find the information they need.

On a day to day basis, you will:

  • Deliver quality, evidence-based recovery focused mental health services including assessments, individualised person-centered planning and coordination, and the delivery of relevant therapeutic interventions.
  • Design treatment plans and relevant interventions to assist the young person to drive their own recovery plan.
  • Coordinate supports with service providers including medical professionals, Government Departments and services, non-government organisations and schools.
  • Problem solve and use initiative in situations which may involve issues that require resolution between individuals or services. In such situations, discretion, sensitivity and diplomacy will need to be executed.
  • Provide supervision, support, guidance, and mentoring of students and junior youth access clinicians.
  • Ensure compliance with all directions from Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and other governing bodies and organisations as relevant to the SYAC’s professional discipline (e.g. AASW, Occupational Therapy Australia, etc.) including unrestricted current registration and in relation to ongoing professional development.
  • Identify and implement community based activities that will support the social and emotional well being of the individual on their recovery journey

Ideally, you will have significant experience working within the Mental Health sector combined with relevant qualifications. You must also be currently registered, or eligible for registration (National or State) as a Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker, Mental Health Nurse or other allied health professional.

Please note - Successful candidates must maintain a Class C drivers license and proof of comprehensive insurance must be provided when required. You may be directed to use your private motor vehicle in the course of performing your duties when an organisational pool motor vehicle is unavailable. You will receive the Travelling Transport and Fares Allowance when using your private vehicle for work related purposes.

Selection Criteria

Essential:

  1. Minimum 2 years post-qualification experience delivering mental health assessments and evidence-based interventions and
    • Clinical Psychologist or Registered Psychologist who have current full AHPRA registration, or;
    • Occupational therapists who have current full AHPRA registration, and who have completed additional mental health specific training and are eligible for mental health accreditation with OTA, or;
    • Social Workers holding an approved Social Work Qualification (Bachelor/ Master of Social Work) and who have completed additional mental health specific training, and are eligible for mental health endorsement with AASW, or;
    • Division 1 Mental Health Nurses who have completed additional training or who have relevant experience within mental health, e.g. with post graduate qualifications in mental health nursing
    • Mental Health Counsellors or Psychotherapists with a minimum of Level 3 or above requirements outlined within the Australian Counselling Association Scope of Practice Guidelines, and who are registered with the relevant membership body (ACA or PACFA or equivalent).
  1. Demonstrated experience providing mental health assessments, evidence-based interventions , risk assessments and crisis interventions, and care planning with young people and their families/carers.
  2. Sound knowledge of recovery focused and family inclusive practice, as well as understanding the needs of young people from diverse backgrounds, and the ability to effectively engage with them and their family/carers.
  3. Demonstrated skills in coaching and mentoring, with an ability to impart knowledge in a learning environment. 
  4. High-level computer literacy, including report writing and electronic client management systems.
