Flourish Australia has a brand new opportunity for a Vocational Trainer (Hospitality) to join our Community Businesses team! Bring your hospitality supervision and training skills to this unique role based in a vibrant community centre!
The position available is:
- Closed-term Full-time (76 hours/fortnight) until 30 June 2026
- Working Monday to Friday
- Based in Surry Hills

About the Opportunity
Flourish Australia’s Community Businesses provide vocational support and training within a commercial environment to people with lived experience of mental health issues. They achieve this goal by tailoring meaningful employment activities that support an employee’s vocational journey with practical on the job training and a group based learning experience. These vocational activities culminate into achieving the Community Businesses objective of transitioning employees into open employment.
The objectives of our community businesses are to provide a supportive working environment where people can:
- Reconnect gradually with employment and earn an award-based wage;
- Gain or enhance the social skills required to operate successfully as an employee;
- Learn about recovery and how to improve their physical and mental health and wellbeing, and plan their recovery journey with support from a peer worker; and
- Gain useful trade or industrial skills and qualifications relevant to future working opportunities.
As a Vocational Trainer (Hospitality) with Flourish Australia, you will lead the delivery of the Hospitality Program for individuals living with complex mental health issues. This program offers training and supervision in food preparation and service for Supported Employees.
On a day to day basis, you will:
- Supervise and train participants in all aspects of food and beverage, and commercial kitchen operations
- Ensure that participants are fulfilling all practical requirements of hospitality-related courses they are undertaking
- Ensure that the kitchen equipment and furniture is well maintained, presented and safe
- Manage stock and inventory
- Role model excellent customer service

Please note - Successful candidates must maintain a Class C drivers license and proof of comprehensive insurance must be provided when required. You may be directed to use your private motor vehicle in the course of performing your duties when an organisational pool motor vehicle is unavailable. You will receive the Travelling Transport and Fares Allowance when using your private vehicle for work related purposes.

Selection Criteria
Essential:
- A minimum 3-years experience leading a team in the hospitality industry
- Obtained NSW Food Authority Food Safety Supervisor certification and Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certification or be willing to gain these qualifications within an agreed timeframe.
- Demonstrated ability to work flexible hours.
- Demonstrated exceptional customer service skills.
- Relevant qualifications in hospitality or commercial cookery.
- Demonstrated understanding of people working with a lived experience of complex mental health.
- A current Australian Driver’s Licence.
