Flourish Australia has a brand new exciting opportunity for an Accredited Exercise Physiologist to join our Sydney teams!
The position available is:
- Closed-term part-time until 30 June 2025 (45.6 hours/fortnight)
- Working agreed upon days between Monday to Friday
- Based in Surry Hills (working across the Sydney region)
- Attractive salary starting at $85,000 per annum + Super + Tax-Free Salary Packaging.
About the Opportunity
As an Accredited Exercise Physiologist with Flourish Australia, you will be supporting the integration of lifestyle interventions within a community setting specialised in complex mental health to improve physical health outcomes for people living with complex mental health issues.
The Accredited Exercise Physiologist is responsible for promoting the importance of exercise physiology through in-service training, developing resources, and educating other team members or external stakeholders, and for also supervising student placements in collaboration with universities. They work closely with the local Manager as part of the integrated support team to help ensure a comprehensive approach to support people to self-manage their physical health.
As an Accredited Exercise Physiologist, you will:
- Conduct comprehensive health screenings to identify risk factors and determine appropriate exercise interventions.
- Perform detailed health and exercise assessments to evaluate fitness levels, physical capabilities, and any limitations or contraindications.
- Design and deliver tailored exercise programs for individuals and groups, ensuring safety and effectiveness.
- Collaborate with physicians, psychologists, dietitians, and other health professionals, including writing letters and reports to communicate consumer progress and needs.
- Promote the importance of exercise physiology through in-service training, developing resources, and educating other team members or external stakeholders.
- Assist in developing and refining operational procedures to enhance the delivery of exercise physiology services within Flourish Australia.
- Provide supervision and mentorship to exercise physiology students on clinical placements, ensuring a high standard of learning and professional development.
- Provision of individual and/or group support to people who have limited or no access to initial and/or ongoing exercise support services

Please note - Successful candidates must maintain a Class C drivers license and proof of comprehensive insurance must be provided when required. You may be directed to use your private motor vehicle when an organisational pool motor vehicle is unavailable. You will receive the Travelling Transport and Fares Allowance when using your private vehicle for work related purposes.

Selection Criteria
Essential:
- Accredited through Exercise Sports Science Australia (ESSA) as an Accredited Exercise Physiologist
- Demonstrated clinical experience as an accredited Exercise Physiologist working with people with a lived experience of a mental health issue.
- Demonstrated experience in community engagement, health promotion, and building effective relationships with other service providers.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver exercise and lifestyle education and training to arrange of professionals including mental health clinicians and GPs.
- Demonstrated understanding of the challenges faced by people with a lived experience of a mental health issue and how providing a recovery-oriented service is of benefit to people.
- Demonstrated strong communication, advocacy and interpersonal skills including the ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, facilitate outcomes and prepare reports in clear and concise language.
- Current unrestricted Australian drivers’ licence.
Desirable:
- A personal lived experience of a mental health issue or a carer of a person with a lived experience.
- Understanding of public sector and community-based service systems relevant to people with a lived experience of a mental health issue and psychosocial disability and demonstrated experience navigating such systems and using capacity building and education to achieve positive results.
