NDIS Mental Health Access Officer

Flourish Australia has a new and exciting opportunity for a NDIS Mental Health Access Officer to work at Liverpool Hospital alongside the South Western Sydney Local Health District!

The position available is closed-term full-time for a period of one year and the successful candidate will be required to work Monday to Friday. The position is classified at Level 5 on the Flourish Australia Enterprise Agreement (2018).

About the Opportunity

This newly created NDIS Mental Health Access Officer role aims to streamline the means by which people living with a psychosocial disability access the NDIS. You will be responsible for monitoring the progress of participants through all stages of the NDIS process while collaborating with a multitude of service systems to create an integrated model of care.

The NDIS Mental Health Access officer will liaise with NDIS providers to help people access the appropriate supports to live well in the community and reduce the need for hospitalisation. Your work will enable SWSLHD staff to navigate the NDIS more efficiently, reducing the strain on resources and time, allowing clinicians to focus on the provision of clinical care. You will work closely with the NDIA, the Ministry of Health and other Local Health Districts and Specialty Health Networks to achieve these outcomes.

Selection Criteria

Essential:

To be successful in this role you will have a strong understanding of the NDIS and relevant supports available in the network. You will bring strong organisation skills, and the ability to monitor and streamline the progress of participants through all stages of the NDIS process. You will also possess the ability to work sensitively with people living with a psychosocial disability, their families and carers.

In addition, you will possess:

  1. A diploma or degree in the behavioural sciences or a health-related discipline.
  2. Demonstrated time management skills including prioritisation of competing tasks and the ability to work innovatively to solve complex issues.
  3. Demonstrated understanding of the challenges faced by people with a psychosocial disability.
  4. Understanding of the public sector and community based service systems relevant to people with a lived experience of a mental health issue and psychosocial disability and demonstrated experience navigating such systems.
  5. Demonstrated experience in the provision of support and coordination for people with a psychosocial disability.
  6. Demonstrated strong communication, advocacy and interpersonal skills including the ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  7. Current Australian Driver's Licence.

Please note - Successful candidates must maintain a Class C driver’s licence as you may be directed to use your private motor vehicle in the course of performing your duties when an organisational pool motor vehicle is not available. Proof of comprehensive insurance must be provided when required. You will receive payment of the Travelling Transport and Fares Allowance when using your private vehicle for work related purposes.
